Vonie
Evans is a native Texan & has always been around farm animals and
recently, exotics. She taught economics and government for 20 years,
and when she and her husband retired, they moved to Kerrville.
Six years ago, Vonie took a class in ceramics & knew
this was something she wanted to do. She set
up a workshop, bought a wheel & kiln & has tried everything she
could imagine in clay. When Vonie saw clay animals in a magazine,
she decided to try this. It worked and she has not stopped since.
Vonie’s animals are high fired & because they are
handmade, no 2 are alike. Glazes are whatever the kiln decides.
Sometimes acrylics & lusters are added. Sometimes she leaves them as
they were made from the raw clay. She also makes wheel thrown &
hand-built vessels, but always with a twist. A lizard or cow, a
flower, an abstract form; whatever she feels like doing. This is
Vonie’s “thing” and if other people like it also, she is very
grateful.
Vonie’s work has been shown at
The Rivers Edge Gallery, Kerr Arts & Cultural Center and the Museum
of Western Art, the Medina Art Center and now Artisans at Rocky Hill
in Fredericksburg.
