Suzan Germond has been a
practicing mosaic artist in Lakeway, Texas for eight years. She has a Ph.D. in Art History from Stanford University and has experience as
a college instructor, an art appraiser of Old Masters and working in
fine art galleries. With this substantial art background to draw
upon, Suzan has chosen to make mosaics that embody the transformative
process; changing old, discarded, nondescript objects into works of
beauty. Suzan uses a variety of materials such as iridescent glass,
Italian smalti,
ceramic tile, colored mirror, jewelry and found objects to create
detailed, colorful and whimsical art work.
Recently, Suzan has been developing a series of floral still lifes
using unexpected objects
in new ways. She has also been working with architects and
clients on private commissions such as countertops, ponds and custom
furnishings.
Suzan is a member of the
Society of American Mosaic Artists, the American Craft Council and
the Lake Travis Arts League. Her work has been published in
Creative Garden Mosaics (Jill MacKay, Lark Publishing, 2003) and was filmed by HGTV,
which aired December 15th, 2005 and again in the Spring of 2006.
Sterling Publishers released her new book, "Found Art Mosaics", in
July 2007. This wonderful publication is available at Artisans
at Rocky Hill and fine bookstores.
