Craig
Blaha is an artist living in Austin, Texas and has been sculpting in
metal, wood, and stone for over twenty
years. Craig learned to weld and the art of lost wax bronze casting
while working in foundries in Claremont and Pasadena California, and
as an apprentice at the Johnson Atelier Bronze Art Foundry in New
Jersey.
Sound,
motion, and recycled materials play important roles in Craig’s steel
sculpture. As he designs each piece he tries to encourage
interaction either through direct physical contact, or through the
sound and motion of the piece. He likes the idea that art should be
interactive and accessible.
Whenever possible, Craig uses
recycled materials from scrap yards in his work. One of his favorite
activities is to wander through junk and scrap yards, looking for an
interesting piece of steel or an old tool. Craig feels being open to
the little details around you can open doors and allow for
opportunities you didn’t know existed.
