Marilyn
Hoyt was born and raised in St. Joseph, MO and attended the Kansas
City Art Institute and School of Design where she earned a Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree in commercial art.
She was
introduced to the creation of pottery in 1962 when the art of hand
thrown pottery was just becoming popular. She immersed herself
in learning the skills & techniques required to become a potter.
Marilyn loves discovering the unique bowl, cup or vase that emerges
from the clay on her wheel almost by magic.
Marilyn
studied under Jean Petterson, a well known Denver clay artist using
glazes formulated from materials gathered from mine tailings in the
Colorado Mountains.
She has
shown in many shows and galleries in Colorado, Wyoming and New
Mexico. Juried shows included the Denver
Art Museum’s Own Your Own show and the Baltimore Museum of Art,
winning best of show for ceramics and first place ribbons in
ceramics in various exhibits.
Marilyn
also paints in watercolor, oil and pastel.
Marilyn
has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. She now lives in the
Kerrville/Fredericksburg area and works at the Hill Country Arts
Foundation pottery studio. Her work is currently on display at
Artisans at Rocky Hill.
