Marilyn Hoyt was born and raised in St. Joseph, MO and attended the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in commercial art.

She was introduced to the creation of pottery in 1962 when the art of hand thrown pottery was just becoming popular.  She immersed herself in learning the skills & techniques required to become a potter.  Marilyn loves discovering the unique bowl, cup or vase that emerges from the clay on her wheel almost by magic.

Marilyn studied under Jean Petterson, a well known Denver clay artist using glazes formulated from materials gathered from mine tailings in the Colorado Mountains.

She has shown in many shows and galleries in Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico.  Juried shows included the Denver Art Museum’s Own Your Own show and the Baltimore Museum of Art, winning best of show for ceramics and first place ribbons in ceramics in various exhibits.

Marilyn also paints in watercolor, oil and pastel.

Marilyn has 3 children and 5 grandchildren.  She now lives in the Kerrville/Fredericksburg area and works at the Hill Country Arts Foundation pottery studio.  Her work is currently on display at Artisans at Rocky Hill.
