Raised
in Fredericksburg, Texas, Melissa Starry has always been influenced
by music, art, and the cultures of
Germany and Mexico. Since 1988, she and her husband have resided
(and raised their daughter) in her childhood home. A photographer,
hairstylist, and business owner since 1972, her art career started
in 1998 when Wayne Porter encouraged her to join the Fredericksburg
Art Guild. For the past 10 years she has assisted internationally
known artist, Joyce Combs. Winning several awards, including
Best in Show at Hill Country Arts Foundation, Melissa
continues to study and grow in her art and creativity. Her narrative
style has evolved into a mixed media format: incorporating
printmaking, acrylics, oil pastels, collage, and photography onto
textured paper or canvas.
She has
been in nearly 50 group shows, and her first one-woman show “Turning
60 – VaRoom with a View” will be held at Hill Country Arts
Foundation in Ingram, Texas on August 5, 2011.
